The Jean Monnet Centre of Montréal, in partnership with ERIQA, is hosting Ilke Adam (Brussels School of Governance) as part of the Simone Veil Conferences 2024-2025. Ilke Adam will present a lecture titled ‘Antiracism in Europe: Public Policies and Activism‘ on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. The lecture will take place at the Université de Montréal, in room B-3335 of the Jean-Brillant Pavilion, 3200 Jean-Brillant Street, Montreal.

The lecture will be in French. Registration is required.

The lecture will be followed by a back-to-school cocktail in room C-2081 of the Carrefour des arts et des sciences at the Lionel-Groulx Pavilion.   Abstract:

More than 20 years after the adoption of the EU Race Equality Directive of 2000, policy and public debates on anti-discrimination and anti-racism in Europe have changed. During this lecture, we will discuss the interplay between increasing contestation of the existing EU and member states policies, and the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 as contributing factors leading up to the passing of the EU Anti-Racism Action Plan in 2020.
