Public talk: “The changing security landscape in Northern Europe: what role for NATO?”

The Jean Monnet Center Montréal is pleased to welcome Toms Rostoks (University of Latvia) who will give a public talk on “The changing security landscape in Northern Europe: what role for NATO?” at the Université de Montréal on 19 March at 4pm.

Abstract: 2014 has been the turning point for NATO collectively and a number of its member states individually. While security concerns of countries in Central and Northern Europe have increased, the military conflict in Ukraine has given a renewed sense of purpose to the Alliance. The lecture provides an overview of the changing security dynamics in Northern Europe over the past few years. The lecture looks at responses of the Northern European (both NATO and non-NATO) countries to the military conflict in Ukraine. As the NATO plays pivotal role in European security architecture, the lecture also conceptualizes NATO response through various conceptual tools provided by international relations literature.
