Laurent Charbonneau – Master’s degree in political science (UdeM)

Laurent Charbonneau is a master’s candidate in Political Science at the University of Montreal, under the supervision of Frédéric Mérand. He holds an honors bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Economics from the University of Ottawa, and specializes in security and defense issues in Europe.

His thesis explores the dynamics of convergence and divergence between France and Germany regarding the concept of European strategic autonomy.

Laurent has enriched his academic journey with internships in the political section of the Mission of Canada to the European Union and at the Strategic Foresight Directorate of NATO’s Allied Command Transformation.

He is the recipient of the Joseph-Armand-Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship, the Jean Monnet Prize for Excellence in European Studies, the RBC Financial Group Excellence Scholarship, the Supplementary Scholarship from the Canadian Centre for German and European Studies, as well as the Mitacs Globalink Research Award.
