Wassim Tayssir – PhD student in political science (McGill)

Wassim Tayssir is a PhD in Political Science at the Université de Montréal, under the supervision of Frédéric Mérand. His research focuses on foreign policy analysis and European studies, which he approaches using a political sociology framework. Taking France as a case study, his inquiry explores French strategies of influence within EU institutions (the Commission, the Council, and the Parliament). He draws on qualitative methods such as discourse analysis, interviews, and ethnography to conduct his study.

Wassim Tayssir holds a master’s degree in International relations from Sciences Po Paris (School of research). His master’s thesis, which analyzed Emmanuel Macron’s foreign policy discourse, was later published as a book. Prior to starting his PhD, Wassim worked during one year as a parliamentary assistant at the European Parliament, which enabled him to conduct participant observation alongside a French diplomat and Member of the European Parliament.
