Frédéric Mérand, Professor and Chair of the Department of Political Science at the Université de Montréal, spoke to RTL about the proposal for Canada to become an “associate member” of the European Union. He discusses the still-undefined contours of this closer relationship, which could go beyond free trade without amounting to EU membership, as well as the areas in which Canada-EU cooperation could be further strengthened.
