The University of Montreal and McGill University have jointly promoted research and teaching on the European Union since 2000. Heir to the first Jean Monnet Chair established outside Europe in 1993, the Jean Monnet Center Montréal (JMCM) brings together diverse researchers and students who work in a bilingual environment and are engaged with decision makers, the business world, youth, and civil society.

The JMCM multidisciplinary team of experts specializes in European studies and the EU in a global context. Our research encompasses themes such as EU governance (its institutions and its legitimacy), European democracy (rule of law, elections, political competition and public opinion), EU policies such as migration, digital market, security, and foreign policy. Our members contribute diverse perspectives on the EU’s legal, political, historical and cultural dimensions, and on its interactions with other regions and states.
